review 1: As much as I love Jane Austen, I couldn't finish this book. The character may have been one of my favorite Austen ones, but the writing style, dialogue, and way the characters acted in this book were VERY unAusten-like. It was set in the proper time period, but the characters acted and spoke in a very modern way. You know how you read a Jane Austen book and there's all that tension based on etiquette and social norms of the time? Yeah well, that's all gone here.
review 2: Another Jane Austen story from the hero's perspective. I admit that I was not very interested in reading about Colonel Brandon's first love since I knew it's sad end,(his father in this book is vile, by the way) so I skimmed until I found the place where Marianne enters his life, which is dia... morery entry "Friday 26 August" in case you want to skip all that completely. The rest of the book was more of the same enjoyable reading that I've had with the other two in this series. They are light, entertaining, and fun. I also recommend them for those who don't find Jane Austen's writing style to their liking. These are easier to read and you still get the full story. I'm looking forward to the next one. less
