review 1: Henry finds Charley in the snow. He wants to come home with him. So he wraps Charley in his old baby blanket and takes him home. At home his parents lay down the rules as to who will be walking and feeding Charley. Henry has no problem being in charge of Charley's care. His parents also make it clear that Charley will be sleeping in the kitchen, not in his bedroom.Henry reluctantly leaves Charley in the kitchen with his favorite stuffed toy and a blanket. But Charley wakes up several times during the night and Henry goes to comfort him. Eventually they end up in Henry's bed and both fall asleep before Henry makes sure to get Charley back to his bed in the kitchen.Very cute and gently story illustrated with Oxenbury's award-winning illustrations. Not a great one for storytim... moree as it is very intimate and a bit long. Fabulous for one-on-one reading.
review 2: This was such a cute and warm book to read! Henry brings his new puppy home and shows him around the house. The text is repetitive in the sense that Henry is making sure Charley understands where his new home is. This would be appropriate in a younger setting classroom as the text is repetitive and is more suitable for younger readers that are learning to read. The illustrations are beautiful as they are warm and gentle. Definitely something a younger student would enjoy. less
