review 1: A very different perspective to Ravana's life. It is still debatable whether Ramayan ever really happened. But it was a good and fresh perspective of the other side of the story. It sort of completes the epic tale. There isn't so much contradiction. It is hope that someone like Ravan who is considered to be so notorious, can also be a good person. He too can have his compulsions. And sometimes, situations make the person do what he does.Good read.
review 2: Bereft of unnecessary verbiage - this book is a testament to the fact that history is nothing but the lies of the victors. In one's forensic discovery of truth - one needs to hear the story of the vanquished. This is one such story. The legend of Ravana, as a communist. A believer in social justice. A man ab
... moreove orthodoxy. A man far ahead of his times. A self made philosopher king, embodiment of scientific temper and principles, Rational thinking and an intelligent mind, and yes... the megalomania that comes with it and finally how this impossible ego - becomes the Achilles heel of a truly phenomenal visionary. All in all. Its a refreshing re-look at the epic of Ram and Ravana. Don't quite know what to believe, because I am neither a historian nor well versed in scriptures. Frankly it's all a matter of inference. But the faith in order to be actually worth it - has to face up to the trial of doubt. This is one such version, which might help one unravel one truth. Fictional or Real. For me. This is a far real tale than Ramayana. A much needed respite from the 'holier than thou' heroes of traditional Ramayana. Ravana is a more believable. The flawed hero, the shades of grey in a personality always the more preferable. less

couldn't finish it. As much as it was a 'non-fiction' book, it was a bad story.
