review 1: This was a fun UNrealistic romance. If you want some light, candy floss feel good m/m romance, this is definitely worth the read. The reality show premise was really fun for me. It reminded me of the HOURS of reality tv I used to watch. Charming librarian meets brooding rock star. They quite literally steam up the pages. The book needs an editor, though. There were a LOT of malapropisms. For instance: "She wore a PHEASANT styled multicolored skirt." God, I hope the author meant PEASANT. They didn't bother me so much, just sort of jarred and amused me, but I am sure some readers would be turned off by them enough to ask for refunds. And I, as an English MA, was extremely offended by the opening sentence: "There were days when one knew they should have stayed in bed and Merric... morek knew today was one of those days."?!"ONE knew THEY"? Umm, pronoun agreement?Starting the first sentence of the story with "There were..."? Perhaps the weakest way to construct a sentence in English? And where is the comma separating the two independent phrases?Just sayin'...So grammatically wrong on so many levels. I was tempted to stop there and then, but I gave the book the benefit of the doubt and enjoyed it for what it is, because it was really enjoyable otherwise.4 generous stars for cuteness and including a scene with chicken and dumplings!
review 2: I always know going into an Andi Anderson book that I will end it with a smile on my face. This one was no exception. This is my 5th and I have loved them all. There's Merrick, the almost has-been 32 year old rock star. His career is in a slump so he agrees to be on a reality show in order to boost his slumping popularity. He must spend 8 weeks with his every move being viewed by people on the internet 24/7. The only privacy he is allowed is in the bathroom. During the 8 weeks, Merrick will have a roommate. The roommate turns out to be Samuel, an openly gay 24 year old librarian. Merrick is seen as a womanizing playboy. The point of the show is to bring two people who are complete opposites...... one a straight celebrity and one not...... to see how they interact during that time. Merrick is deeply in the closet and has spent his career hiding the fact that he is gay. There is an instant attraction between the two men but Merrick is concerned about his career and knows that he can't act on it for fear of losing everything by coming out.I totally fell in love with Samuel right off. Everything about him. Merrick, not so much. At least not in the beginning. He has a meeting with the network executives where he says things that are very offensive in regards to living with a gay man for 8 weeks. This was his way of hiding the instant attraction that he felt when he saw Samuel's photo but it was still pretty offensive. Those words come back and bite him later. I learned to love him as the story played out. What I love about this author's books is the fact that they aren't totally full of angst or misunderstandings. Anything that pops up is always resolved quickly and in a good manner. I know I can pick one up without worrying about what is going to pop up next. They (including this one) are all very sweet love stories with a nice, happy ending. This was a very sweet story. It takes a bit for Samuel and Merrick to get it right but they do. A very enjoyable read. less
