review 1: Not sure about this book. It's like Downton Abbey set in the 1980's and 1990's. The point of view keeps changing and I found it difficult to always know where we were in the story. It weaves in and out of a number of characters spanning three generations and is based on white lies they tell each other to maintain appearances. Didn't really connect with any of the characters in a way that made me feel for them.
review 2: This is a story about how one little white lie can tear lives apart, not just now, but for generations. One lie leads to another until even the liars no longer know the truth. This book reminded me a lot of another recent read, The Husband's Secret, which has a similar theme. One interesting aspect of this book is that the narrator is actuall... morey dead and narrating the story the story from the "afterlife." Even he sometimes gets confused about the truth, so it does keep you guessing. less
