review 1: I loved this story of the American Revolution and the establishment of the Constitution as seen through the eyes of four Founding Fathers as gardeners and farmers. It told the events in chronological order beginning with the Revolutionary War and ending with the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It was interesting to learn how much agriculture was apart of these men's lives and ideals. I went to three of the four founders' estates as I listened to the book, which helped me look at them with deeper understanding.I believe the author is British, and the reader was too.

I found the topic quite fascinating.At this time of the year when my world has been trapped beneath snow for months upon months, I long to delve into a garden. But I must enjoy the wonder of this season as well.I am reminded of George Washington's contentment even in the midst of the Long Winter of war. He "reflected not on the hardship of this icicled embrace but noted in his diary that 'the Trees and Earth being glazed looked beautiful.' "Side note: This work was refreshingly unbiased and brightly positive. What a pleasurable book! less
