Annike: Hey guys! I know, I know Zoe and I have had a pretty bad month this month when it came to putting up regular posts and reviews. We’ve been really busy and unless we start scheduling more reviews and finding more time it might take a couple weeks for things to wind down. Anyways, sorry about that I hope you guys are still happy to stick around! Even though we didn’t get around to reviewing many books this month we did read a number so here they are and what we thought of them:
Annike’s Books
Favourite Book: My Favourite book from this month would have to be Letters to the Lost by Iona Gray (3rd book). This book definitely deserved the 5 star rating it got. I was so heartbroken at the end that I could not stop crying and it was so beautifully written. I wrote a review on it so you can go check it out above!
Least Favourite Book: I hate to say it but Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen probably ended up being my least favourite read. I find classics really hard to get into and because this was also a school read I had difficulty understanding and enjoying it. That being said, I’m glad I did decide to read it.
Favourite Premise: I loved the premise of Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer. The very idea of people exchanging anonymous letters is so cool and the very fact that both of the characters had such dark pasts was very enticing. It also delivered well so that was definitely a plus!
Favourite Cover: I absolutely ADORE the cover of This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills. It is so beautiful and the covers are perfect. What I also need to add about this book was just how perfect the humour and dialogue was. That was definitely one of my favourite things about it. The characters were great and the lines were hilarious! Definitely recommend.
Biggest Disappointment: The Things I Didn’t say by Kylie Fornaiser was probably the book that I had the biggest hopes for but never really lived up to what I hoped. I thought that having such a unique premise with the main character having selective mutism would make it really interesting. However it fell a little short in my opinion and the characters weren’t all that engaging after all.
Other: I didn’t quite know where to put The Here and Now by Ann Brashares so I figured I’d better put it in the other section. I actually listened to this book as an audiobook and while I would have loved to like it, I just really didn’t. I never really found myself liking Prenna and the whole book seemed a little unreal. The final thing that put me off it was the ending because it just was not satisfying and wrapped up nothing. But yeah… interesting I guess.
Zoe’s Books
Favourite Book: My favourite book this month is a really hard one as I loved 2 of the three books I read. I would have to go to with How I Lost you by Janet Gurtler as it was such a good book and I was so engaged during the story. I thought the ending was really well done and I think this book was so emotional and well developed that you really got to love all the characters.
Least Favourite Book: Clearly as shown above, my least favourite book this month has to go to The 100 Rebellion by Kass Morgan and this isn’t to say I didn’t enjoy the book because I did. I actually read this book in just over a day. I think the main issue with this book would have to be the development of the series as I feel as if the 3rd book wrapped up the story really well so this book was just trying to create drama which didn’t really didn’t need to be there. I thought the characters were a bit weak, but enjoyed the story line and thought it was well written and an easy read.
Favourite Premise: When I picked up this book and read the back I knew I had to read it. Annike did recommend it to me but Pivot Point by Kasie West had such a good premise that I couldn’t help but pick it up and give it a go. I really loved the story and I did a review on this book earlier in the month so if you want to know a bit more about the book make sure to check that out. Anyway I did love the book and am currently reading the second one which I am also really liking.
