review 1: My Norse God-like friend Hovard recommended this to me, and he was right on!This is a great, fast-moving thriller, about the Eurostar Train being taken hostage while in the Chunnel.Unlike Vince Flynn's books, there is no clear political slant here, and the there is little discussion of anything other than the personal backstory and the action at hand. I really like how much McNab humanizes many of the victims, making you feel really sad when one of them is killed.I will definitely be reading more of this series. If I were to recommend it to someone, I'd say it's for someone who isn't looking for a difficult literary challenge, but rather, a well-written, action-packed read, perfect for commuting or vacationing. Would make a great Father's Day gift!
review 2:
... more I had been introduced to Andy McNab by the Nick Stone series having read the first 3 of these. In this one he goes back to the SAS for his new hero Tom Buckingham. McNab shifts a load of books every year and is a prolific writer, the follow up to this is due any time now. This centres on the SAS trying to arrest a War Criminal that goes wrong and he ends up escaping to hijack a train in the Channel Tunnel. Tom Buckingham has got on the train to win back his girl friend who has left him. There will be easier ways to prove yourself to your woman but in true Die Hard tradition, Tom gets beat up, battered and stabbed. On top of this a snake is in the grass. It may be a thriller by the numbers, it is very enjoyable and well worth a read. Next step is await the movie. yes, they have bought the rights for this book. Lets hope they don't do a Jack Reacher with Tom Buckingham. less
