review 1: Absolutely fantastic! I have attempted to read numerous books on meditation over the years and have tried and failed to meditate during the designated period in yoga classes. I knew I should be doing it but didn't know how. Learning how to meditate requires a wise, knowledgeable, patient, and relaxed teacher, but where and how do you find such a person? I imagine that it's possible in a very large metropolitan city or if you take the leap and decide to go on a retreat, which for me was too expensive, too much of a commitment, and potentially too weird for the level of nothingness that I was working with. But Andy Puddicombe has managed to provide all of those things for me with his book, its companion web site, and app. The book provides great explanations, stories, and ex... moreamples to make something ethereal and often hard to grasp much more manageable. The web site offers short animations to provide an even clearer explanation for difficult concepts. Though there is a paid subscription option on the web site (well worth it in my opinion), the Take 10 series of guided meditations is also provided for free on both the app and the web site. The app also provides the option of choosing an amount of time to meditate with a meditation timer but still getting a guided Intro and Outro. Some may be able to sit down without a coach and set to it, but I find that having somebody set the scene for me is still invaluable.I think this all works because Andy is just a guy. As a former Buddhist monk, he's lived a very different life than most of us, but ultimately, he's very relatable… the kind of guy you could meet in a pub and become great friends with. If you've never tried meditation but are curious about how it might benefit you or if you've tried and struggled and given up or even if you currently have a meditation practice, give this one a shot. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
review 2: At its core, this book is a guide for one approach to Mindfulness based meditation, and includes evidence - statistical and anecdotal - on the benefits of daily practice. The author focuses on shorter, practical meditative moments as part of a healthy lifestyle; eventually, culminating into a life centered around reflection and mindfulness in all situations. Standing in line at the grocery store and practicing techniques from this book is an example; meditating while brushing your teeth is another.I bought this book in an airport in South Africa, and have referenced it at least once a week since. It's easy to read and shares reflections and insight relevant to all. less

10 minutes a day doesn't seem so bad, but then again I could just drink a nice glass of sangria.
