review 1: The exercises and ideas in this book are very helpful. I had always wanted to take up meditation because of the benefits I had read about. I didn't know how to start. I was unsure about going to a class because I didn't want to be the only one in my group of friends or family who was doing it. I also didn't want to explain it too others. I have been a bit emotionally closed off and I don't like to share a lot with others. On top of all of this was the misconceptions that I had attached to meditation: that it took hours a day and a lot of work. Andy Puddicombe makes meditation an achievable practice. By breaking it down into the most important parts and using engaging stories to explain the importance of each aspect, he really motivated me to improve my life with ju... morest a few minutes each day.
review 2: I came to this book after practicing the Headspace technique with the Take10 program, and if you like Andy's approach, you will find this book immensely helpful. Although a good portion of his theories and techniques are available through GetSomeHeadspace.com, I found that listening to the audiobook was extremely useful as both a summary of all the key elements I'd been introduced to thus far as well as being full of many details and stories that have made my Headspace journey all the more enjoyable, understandable, and practical. I highly recommend the audiobook version for several reasons. First among them would be because Andy reads it himself, this, if you listen while participating in any of the Headspace programs (the first of which is free and infinitely repeatable), you get the added benefit of feeling as though your mindfulness training expands beyond the minutes dedicated to meditation. (Perhaps the experience is comparable to an urban retreat, which allows for intensive training while maintaining your otherwise regular routine.) In addition, the last few chapters of the audiobook are guided meditations that you can come back to whenever appropriate. If you are even vaguely interested in mindfulness training, you'll probably find Andy's audiobook an excellent introduction, and perhaps even the best way to begin. less
