review 1: What an excellent work of historical fiction! So much strength and dedication and love was weaved throughout the novel. Amirrezvani took an intriguing bit of Persian history and crafted well developed characters and intriguing plot lines outside of those given in the history books. She has a gift for description and I always feel like I've learned so much about politics and ancient Persian culture when I've finished an Amirrezvani novel. I would highly recommend this novel! The only reason it isn't a 5 starred review is that I felt a little slogged down in the second quarter of the book.
review 2: This well-researched novel of 16th century Iran was fascinating. Not only is the heroine, based on a real-life princess of the period, gutsy and creative in her effo... morerts to influence policy, but her fellow plotter is a palace eunuch who can go everywhere a princess can't. When Princess Pati's father dies suddenly, she and Javaher maneuver skillfully to instill order and wield influence well beyond the harm's walls. The story is compelling and the peek into the Persian Court of the period is seductive. Legendary female rulers like Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots were exact contemporaries of the Pari Khan Khanoon, making her fictionalized story all the more intriguing. less
