review 1: I was at the library when I found this series. The covers is what drew my attention besides being a mystery. I don't do spoilers so I will say this it was funny, witty and loved the sarcasm that Violet has in this book. Violets come back lines are hilarious. The mystery of who done it kept me going for a little while because the author kept throwing hints of maybe it was this person or that and it had me guessing until the end. So if you like a mystery with some sass and sarcasm try this 1st book in The Deadwood Mystery series. I loved it.
review 2: I thought this book was fairly enjoyable and well written. It was interesting enough to hold my attention to the end, but I did deduct a star for a couple of reasons. The first was because the protagonist, Violet, wa
... mores on occasion almost TSTL (too stupid to live). Young girls are disappearing in Deadwood and Violet has reason to believe that her own daughter may be in danger. She also believes she, herself, may be in danger. What she does in response to some fairly credible threats throws her into the TSTL category in my opinion. And second, because although I enjoyed the sexual tension between Violet and one of the characters in the book, I could have done without the graphic sex scene. It felt gratuitous, unnecessary, and out of place, But that may just be me. less
