review 1: *SPOILER*Hated it. I usually enjoy books, so genuinely hating something is pretty new to me. I felt that the story was all over the place. If her flashbacks had been more in order I think things would've made more sense. It's very similar to Perks of being a wallflower in that the sentence structure was annoyingly basic, but Perks of Being a Wallflower made up for that fact with like able characters. I did not like anyone in this story. I couldn't care any less about Emmys struggles. Perhaps if the fact that Kim died during a fight with Emmy that Kim wasn't even aware of had been said at the beginning I might have gave a care, but they waited until the very end when my lack of cares had passed the point of no return. Do not recommend.
review 2: I started this b
... moreook last night at the library and finished it on my lunch hour. It's one that you pick up and have a hard time putting down. It's beautifully written and you are instantly sucked in to Emmy's story. Her friendship with Kim, Skeeter, her parents, Gabby, Mrs. Dead Homeyer, Dr. Ted, everyone, it's beautiful and interesting and heartbreaking. I'm happy the book ended the way that it did (no spoilers here) and recommend this to reluctant readers who need a fast-paced, good-hearted read. less
