review 1: This is a wonderful book; I hated to see it end. Parts were a bit confusing, so I was glad the author provided a map and, especially, family trees. It also has a great and believable bad guy that we love to hate. I'm going to keep my eyes open for more by Ann Hite. If you decide to read it, I suggest you read Ghost on Black Mountain first, as The Storycatcher has spoilers in it that will make Black Mountain a bit (only a bit!) less enjoyable. After the epilog, the author mentions that "Hollywood" is interested - - Wow, I'd love this as a movie. Of course, Hollywood could ruin it as well. These characters will live with me for a long time. I even dreamed about it. It reminds me a little bit of The Song Catcher by Sharyn McCrumb. In its own way, it is better. The voice... mores of the characters are true and reading it feels like they are speaking, telling their stories to me. Loved it!
review 2: What an awesome sequel to Ghost on Black Mountain. Just love the writing, the earthy voices of these women crawl inside until you think how they talk. A lot more characters to keep up with this time, and the story is crowded with ghosts and women who can see ghosts. And like in Ghost it seems that every man in existence is out there to harm or beat down women which doesn't leave the most encouraging feeling but also has the effect of making you feel as trapped and hopeless as the characters feel at times. Love the last line about "choosing to live" in contrast to the overcrowding of murder and hate and ghosts in the book. Great read! Worth the paranoia of seeing "haints" out of the corner of my eye over the next few days... I really shouldn't be allowed to read scary stuff (even very, very mild scary stuff like Storycatcher). less

Kind of confusing with so many characters and viewpoints, but an interesting story nonetheless.

A little confusing at times to figure out which 'haint' is speaking but was a good read.
