review 1: I was given a free ARC from NetGalley in return for an honest review. I'm usually a fan of novellas, but I busy didn't really get into this one. I am not sure if it is because I have not yet read the book it is a prequel for. The story was simply okay. there wasn't enough character development. I felt like it had potential but was lacking in the end. Overall, not a book I would recommend. I only finished it so I could write this review.
review 2: There are just some authors that have the uncanny knack of portraying time and place to such a marvelous extent, so much so that the reader can place themselves right there with the characters. Ann Hite is one that does this so well, even in a short novella such as this. Love the southern myths so prevalent in the low
... more countries, the stories of the geechees on Sapelo Island, where this novella takes place. Love the "gifts" that the girls are endowed with and the gift of being a story catcher. Her new novel "The Story Catcher" comes out I believe in September and I look forward to reading the continuing story. less
