review 1: J'ai lu "La Consolante" suite à mon gros coup de cœur pour "Ensemble c'est tout" et pour la plume d'Anna Gavalda dans ce roman. Je pense que je m'attendais donc (et peut-être trop) à retrouver les mêmes émotions dans ce roman... Je n'ai pas été spécialement séduite par le résumé mais j'ai tout de même tenté l'aventure, m'attendant à avoir une surprise au niveau du contenu. Mais ça n'a pas du tout été le cas... C'est un roman long, très long... Je ne dis pas cela spécialement pour le nombre de pages même si je crois qu'il en fait quand même aux alentour de 600, car lire un gros roman ne me pose pas de problème du moment qu'il est entraînant. Non, je dis cela car il n'y-a pas d'action, il n'y-a pas d'histoire, il n'y-a rien, pendant 600 pages, seuleme... morent du "blabla", mis bout à bout. On ne s'attache pas à Charles Balanda, le personnage principal de ce roman, un architecte de 47 ans, on ne le comprends pas. Il m'est même devenu insupportable. Alors bien sûr il nous paraît bien réel comme les personnages d'"Ensemble c'est tout" : ce n'est pas un héro, ça c'est sûr, mais, Anna Gavalda n'a pas su faire de ce personnage ordinaire quelqu'un d'extra-ordinaire, comme elle l'a si merveilleusement bien fait avec la petite troupe d'"Ensemble c'est tout", elle ne m'a pas fait rêver. Je suis donc assez déçue de cette lecture... Que j'ai d'ailleurs plusieurs fois failli abandonner. Heureusement pour moi j'avais acquis ce livre d'occasion, pour un euro...I read "The Consolation" because I enjoyed so much "Ensemble c'est tout" and Anna Gavalda's writing in this novel. I was expecting (perhaps too much) to find the same emotions in "La Consolante" ... I have not been especially attracted by the summary but I still tried it because I thought I would have a surprise in terms of content. But that has not been the case ... It's a long novel, very long ... I do not say this specifically for the number of pages even though I think it is still around 600, because reading a long novel is not a problem for me as long as it is catchy. No, I say this because there is no action, there is no story, there in nothing during 600 pages. We do not stick to Charles Balanda, the main character of this novel, a 47-years-old architect, we do not understand him. He even became unbearable. So of course he seems like the real characters of "Ensemble c'est tout", he is not a hero, that's for sure, but Anna Gavalda has failed to make of an ordinary character someone who is finally extra-ordinary, as she did so wonderfully well with the little band of "Ensemble c'est tout". It did not make me dream. I'm pretty disappointed with this reading ... That I actually almost gave up several times. Luckily for me I had acquired this hand book for a euro ...
review 2: Not bad... I really really like Gavalda and enjoy spending time with her characters. I read this because I had read "Ensemble c'est tout" which I can't find on "Goodreads" and that book was perhaps the BEST or at least most thoroughly enjoyable read I have done-- so, go read "Ensemble c'est tout" and don't bother seeing the movie with Audrey Tautou unless you just can't resist... (and no matter what, see it AFTER reading, of course!) less
