review 1: I bought this book for reference of folds/creases in clothes and how cloth lays on the human body. But I was VERY surprised to find out that this book taught me about anatomy, as well! Very exaggerated anatomy, but it applies! I learned SO much from this book, I could read it again! All of the vibrant colors and designs of the clothes are beautiful, I could stare at them all day! Anna Kiper did an amazing job explaining how the fashion designs work in a composition and I learned more about anatomy and how clothing lays on the human body from this book than I ever learned from my art teachers. This is probably one of my favorite art books. The illustrations are inspiring and beautiful, the explanations are clear, this is definitely one of the best art books I've ever read. ... moreI WILL be reading this again. (:
review 2: This is a lovely inspiration book for the fashion illustrator/designer. It goes through the basics of elongating the figure (10 head figure rather than the more realistic 8 head croquis), different techniques and ideas for using mixed media to create some really beautiful illustrations for your portfolio. It also covers flats, mood boards and how to render different textures. I would get this along with "100 Years of Fashion Design" for further inspiration. Personally I find Anna Kiper's colouring techniques and the way she draws faces a little 80s, but the figures are ideal, particularly the women. less
