Lady Darby Mystery
review 1: Another very enjoyable entry in this series, Huber really does her homework and the historical details are both fascinating and well presented. The mystery is an unusual one, at first not seeming to be one at all but then deftly woven in with other plot lines. The only somewhat tedious point was the aggressive overprotectiveness of Kiera from everyone, but Gage in particular. Even though this is historically accurate and very much in keeping with attitudes towards women at the time, it did get a little redundant at points and stilted the flow of action. Curious to see if the next installment (which I picked up at the library today!) handles that with a less choppy fashion.
review 2: Every book 2 in a series is critical to the success of catching an avid reader.
... more This is especially true in a detective series as the author must not rely too much on a predictable plot line and a formula way of solving each crime/mystery. That is what really caught me up in this story. Huber manages to make you feel that you are on a journey with Keira. The author is slowly developing her characters and plots with brilliant results. I am not rushed into the story but rather allowed a glimpse over the heroine's shoulder as she rediscovers her life and passions. I am greatly anticipating the arrival of book 3 on my doorstep. less

Excellent series - from an era and location I'm not familiar with, but am learning about quickly.
