review 1: This was one of my favorite reads for 2014. Childhood friends turned enemies but can't really stay away from each other. No one has any idea they even speak but they always find a way to be with the other. Abigail takes walks by herself at parties knowing that Valerian stalks after her. And they're constantly throwing verbal jabs at each other. But also finding ways to touch each other. A quick brush of a hand, a quick touch to the arm. They can't stay away from each other.I read some reviews before I picked this book up so I was well aware of the paranormal aspects to it. It was actually one of the reasons I decided to pick it up. Most of the negative reviews I read had the reviewer surprised, expecting a regular historical romance and finding some weird things thrown in.... more But going into it knowing full well what Abigail's "special ability" is, I was able to enjoy it without feeling stunned by it. The publisher really should have put that out there, it does a disservice to the author.Overall, I enjoyed the writing, loved the characters and was entertained throughout the whole book. This will be a re-read for me.
review 2: That... Was not at all what I expected. The summary led me to believe that this was a perfectly normal historical romance, as it gives absolutely no hint of anything paranormal, including the fact that the hero is a ghost for fully 85% of the book. I have read one other book by Mallory, and it certainly contained no hint of the paranormal. The beginning was a bit confusing, referencing secrets and past strife between the hero and heroine, but not actually explaining any of it. After the hero went ghostly, though, the story picked up. I really can't say I was particularly sympathetic to the hero's plight, though, because he was an asshole, and certainly not hesitant about being horrible to the heroine. The reasons behind the hero's kidnapping were extremely convoluted and really made absolutely no sense at all, but the story was actually quite fun. I'd say a 3.5, but I'll round up.(But now I am left with one question: Can you get pregnant from having sex with a ghost?) less

I liked it in the beginning. Just did not care for the paranormal aspect of it.
