review 1: I was really interested in this book in the beginning, I have now concluded my interest was half on other peoples reviews and half on finding out what the viscount was really up to with Miranda. I skimmed through the last half of this book. It was a good story line and the characters were likeable. I think my problem was with the way it was written. I felt that (and this will probably sound really stupid) a lot of what the author wrote was more along the lines of "suggestion" than a "telling" of a story. It was like every time Miranda said or thought something she was asking the reader "do you think that could be..." And I do realize when I read a book I am supposed to have my own impressions and normally I do, but with this book I could not get my own impression because M... moreiranda didn't seem to have any impressions. I just felt like a lot of this book was questions of a story, instead of a telling of a story. Sex *
review 2: One of the things about Anne M. that I've noticed is how she doesn't beat things over the head. The author leaves plenty for the readers to draw their own conclusions from; a feeling of being left hanging and wanting so much more. I am left again wishing for an epilogue.This book is special and quite original. At least halfway through, I already felt it necessary to read it over from start to finish a second time in hopes of getting clarity.Most of the book is from the perspective of Miranda and the dropped hints explained why it must be so. It would not have made sense or as much impact otherwise.There were definitely moments that I can describe Downing as TSTL. But then again, most main characters in romance books have that issue in some form or fashion; hence a story.I would also have liked to see more interaction between Downing and the rest of his siblings. Even learn more about his family. The glimpses again, just left me wanting to know more. less
