Maya and Valko
review 1: I like the book and the characters, especially Maya and Cousin Louise (not sure what Valko's role was. It seems that he is just there without any purpose whatsoever). But the story itself needed some refinement. The overall theme is good, immortality vs. morality. To what length are you willing to go to ensure your place in an exclusive immortal club? So, some nodding and thinking moments there. However, this is the first book by this author and it shows. The story was slow, it drags in the beginning and in the middle and it was never really took off in the end. So, in all it got potential yet has its share of disappointment.
review 2: I enjoyed the book. It is well-written; the language is very beautiful in parts and several times I reread sentences in order
... more to absorb and admire them. Like other reviewers, I found the first half of the book slow and I could not relate to Maya. I felt I was above her watching, instead of behind her eyes -- which is where I like to be when reading. I would have liked to have more sense of her as a child. However, the story is rich and complex and worth reading. less

The plot of this book was fairly entertaining but I was not a fan of the writing style.

Half the time I was reading it, I didn't even know what was happening!

I didn't think this was necessarily a bad book, it just wasn't for me.
