review 1: I think this book was really good. It had lots of description about everything. It is a book about a girl; Lara with a connection between her and her dogs.Her family breed borzoi dogs for the royal family. The father badly wants a son, so he can take over the kennel as the next kennel steward. When Lara's brother is born she must stop doing what she loves and start a sewing apprenticeship. What will she do tho be the next kennel steward? I would recomend this book to anyone who loves dogs and good action packes stories.
review 2: Lara is a 14 year old girl in 1914 Russia whose father runs the kennel which breeds the czars favorite white borzoi. She has the gift of naming and of visions concerning the dogs, but is driven to hide them by her father. She rebels ag... moreainst norms which suggest that her place is not with the dogs and dreads her newly born baby brother taking her place in the kennel. This is a lovely and lively historical fiction that is short and contains excellent glossary and epilogue. Fun, quick and would recommend to anyone interested in the subject matter. less
