review 1: Oh My God,This is heartbreaking, why why why do animals in books (usually dogs or cats) just melt my heart? Especially a little dragon that is similar to either a cat or a dog! I loved this book from about the start, the first chapter is slow its not something you fall into but gradually get it. The dynamics of characters are interesting if a little bit unsurprising.The dad is a complete idiot, so affectionate there isn't any point him even breathing in this book he barely does anything but 'protects' piper by hurting her more.I saw the fact her mother was alive, pretty quickly. Its a little bit non-shocking. I kind of liked her, I'd like to see more of her IF I get the next book.Lyre is a funny go happy lad with the usual I'm hurting underneath this laddish exterior. Ash ... morebad boy but kind of intriguing. Out of the two I can't decide who is best for piper, not really Lyre because of HER past but not Ash because hes a bad bad bad guy but also good?I must admit I am hooked and if I find the next book I will probably go for it. I won't really bother reviewing Pip as she isn't something special shes nice I don't dislike her but I don't LOVE her.
review 2: I really loved this book and I am so glad I found it. I would recommend it to anyone!Piper is a great heroine. She is kick ass, humourous and not too proud to feel fear if she knows the situation she is in is dangerous. She is jam packed full of passion and inner turmoil about her lack of magic and aspiration to be the head Consul like her father. She is constantly trying to prove she is worthy of his praise. Lyre and Ash are daemons Piper is forced to team up with when a precious artifact she has is wanted by just about every enemy going, both on earth, in the Overworld and the Underworld. Lyre is an Incubus who feels for Piper and is playful and provides the 'relief' during the darker parts of this story and Ash is the dangerous, scary Draconian who Piper is attracted to despite him possibly being a murderous monster. I love their interactions one and one and as a team. They are fantastic.The story leaves on a cliffhanger and I cant wait for book 2 to come out! less
