review 1: I was really looking forward to this book. I enjoy books about old friends. I am being generous giving it 2 stars. This book was not about 2 friends that have a friendship that webs and flows through the years. It was about Rebecca and Alex - Rebecca is obsessed and jealous of her friend and makes some poor decisions to prove she is better than her. Alex is so self absorbed that she notices and doesn't care. Didn't find either woman likeable. The wrap up at the end was also a bit ridiculous.
review 2: Pretty big letdown. Only gave it 3 stars because I loved the author's style. It was poetic and beautiful, and it's just about the one thing I did like about this book. For a book that was supposed to be about this grand, wonderful friendship, I didn't see on
... moree crumb of evidence these two girls were anything resembling true friends at all. Alex was a self-centered, unstable mega-bitch, and I could not for the life of me figure out why Rebecca was so obsessed with her and craved her acceptance so much. Disappointed, for sure. less

Terrific writing and story that will resonate with many women who came of age in the 60s and 70s.
