review 1: This is one of those books that I have a really hard time rating. It's a great concept: all the Halloween-y monster creatures are real, and they all have "jobs" at a horror theme park called Zombillenium. I say "jobs" because they're not really given a choice about it. If you're unfortunate enough to be turned into a zombie, or a vampire, or a werewolf, etc., then you either work at Zombillenium when the job offer is made, or you die. For good, this time. And forget about quitting! No loafing on the job, either. Do a good job or get fired. Literally.Great concept. Enjoyable, if not super exciting, art. But ultimately I don't think this is one that I'll remember for very long. It did take me, like 30 minutes to read, though. Perfect for a Saturday librarian who ... moreforgot her book at home like a loser.
review 2: Vampires, Werewolves, and Witches -- oh my! This comic has it all, but in the best of ways.Initially published in France, America is finally getting treated to this rare gem. I thoroughly enjoyed this and am actually going to purchase it for my personal collection. The art is superb, flows well from panel to panel, and still manages to look a little different from your normal comic-type fare. The characters were all interesting and had well-thought out designs and coloring schemes - I loved Gretchen's design especially (character pictured on cover). After Aurelian's initial transformative bites, in the panels following you can see his sideburns growing longer - and I am a sucker for little details like that. However, like some of the other Goodreads reviews, I was a little disappointed in the pacing and the lack of seeing all of the supposed strife with Aurelian and his wife (his motive for everything he did). But unlike other reviewers, I love the large hardcover design of this short volume; it made the comic feel special and definitely stands out on a book shelf. All in all I was very impressed and am excited to read the other two volumes when they are released.A word of warning to cautious parents, though: I would recommend this to more mature teens as there is mentions of sexy times and some heavy swearing that is partially censored out in a humorous way.-Miss JennThis title is available from PPLC in print format HERE less
