review 1: This was a book club read. On the one hand, I am glad I finally read an Amish romance. This one might have worked for me if the characters had any depth at all, but alas, it's a simple story with simple characters, and the hero in particular doesn't really graduate past idealized cardboard (by which I mean, he's basically perfect and thus kind of bland). The heroine gets a little more nuance, at least, and the book isn't too preachy, which I was worried about. It made for an interesting discussion at book club, I can say that much. (The book isn't terrible, just lacking in complexity that would have made it more interesting.)
review 2: This was an above-average novel with vivid characters and a plot that moved along. I appreciated the discussion of domestic vi
... moreolence issues, but I felt they were dealt with a little too glibly. It seemed like a plotline written by someone who had experienced domestic violence secondhand, not firsthand (not that I would wish that on anyone). The resolution of the main romantic plot was also a bit too neat and tidy to be believable. Still, an enjoyable read. less
