review 1: I hate vampires and I hate books about them. I just don't get the whole paranormal romance thing. How can any normal person get all excited about a walking corpse who maintains a creepy quasi-life by drinking people's blood??? HOWEVER. I love Barbara Hambly and will read whatever she writes. This series is her usual exciting, suspenseful story with her usual well-rounded, convincing characters (some of whom are vampires) and so I happily make an exception to my No Vampires Allowed rule. You would really have to start at the start with Those Who Hunt the Night or some things in Blood Maidens wouldn't make sense.
review 2: A great addition to the James Asher series. Her vampires are chilling in that they control the minds of their victims, making them almos
... moret willing participants in the hunt. The Ashers, the human protagonists in the story, lend their humanity to their vampire accomplice. Don Ysidro is both sinister and compassionate, incredibly strong and very frail. Now off to delve into the fourth book - The Magistrate of Hell! less
