review 2: A combination of mystery and romance is my favorite type of book to read. Now add in time travel and I am over the moon. From the time I read the first page of Ms Williams "Overseas", I was hooked and completely drawn into the story. The continual bouncing from present day to France 1916 j
... moreust added to the intrigue of the story. The story is completely from Kate's viewpoint which created part of the mystery. How could someone so wonderful and powerful care about her? What was Laurence hiding? Why does she immediately like and dislike some of Laurence's friends and associates? I was continuing to read to find the answers. The characters Ms Williams creates are real. Kate the modern day independent girl from small town USA trying to make it on her own. Laurence is the perfect British gentleman trying to adapt to world where chivalry is a thing of the past. But what woman would not want someone who adored her, listened to her, and gave her elaborate gifts even if she said she wanted to make it on her own. This is such a wonderful story. I could go on and on, but I suggest you read it for yourself. I believe you will get pulled in just as I did. less

I read "A Hundred Summers" by B. Williams and "Overseas" was certainly a disappointment compared to that. "Overseas" was basically chic lit, and not very good at that. Most of the book was spent telling us how handsome/beautiful the main characters were and how much they loved each other. There was some time travel thrown in - I guess to try and give some kind of story to the novel. Very disappointing.

Nice book with a good concept. A little unbelievable at times. Could have been a great book.
