review 1: The two protagonist have two-different voices. Not an easy task for an author. I really enjoyed this book - Vivian is a high-society gal working in Manhattan at a magazine. Violet is her great-aunt who disappeared around WWI with her lover, leaving behind a dead husband. The story goes back and forth between these two characters and they are both delightful to read - when you read a dual-narrative like this, i often find that I want to read one one story. Not so here - I loved both characters. A fun read and so interesting. Our dead husband Dr. Walter Grant is certainly a villain but quite a quiet one. That's usually the best kind.
review 2: This book switches between a sort of cliche OK-historical novel (first world war) and a romantic comedy type nove
... morel (still set in the 60s). Some of it is humorous, but not nearly as funny as it probably aims to be. It's got some charm but mostly it's a very cliche and the stereotypical description of gorgeous brave heroines and their dashing suitors and other stuff you've read thousands of times before. Thankfully the writing is decent (read: passable) The plot is probably the only thing that kept me reading because there was an element of mystery outside of the paralleling romance stories. less

This was an easy read and a page turner. Sometimes it's just nice to get caught up in a story.
