An Uncommon Whore
review 1: When I fall is the sequel to the amazing book An Uncommon Whore by Belinda McBride. In the first book we meet Pasha, a slave who is actually the lost king Helios. Griffin (his old friend and quasi lover) was the one to find him and bring him home. I didn’t know what to expect from the sequel. At the end of AnUncommon Whore I knew that the council wasn’t happy with Helios returning to power, but besides rebuilding and restoring I wasn’t sure what could be enough plot to make a sequel. McBride has a lot more imagination and intrigue left and When I Fall blew me away. The story is told from Griffin’s point of view instead of Helios. We get to see inside his head, what happened during the invasion, and how he feels about now being a consort to the king. Helios is ... morepetitioning to join with other peaceful species in a sort of corp, but he has nothing to offer in the way of skill, trade or product (besides the dangerous sunstone Candar). Or so he thinks. Politics and violence take a front seat as traitors and inborn plots are revealed. This book was amazing. There are secrets, plots and high treason. It was fast paced, exceptional and I am so pleased that the author hinted at a third book starring Caius, who isn’t who he seems… I highly recommend starting this series if you like romance, adventure and political intrigue!~ Bitten by Books for AReCafe
review 2: I look at the rewieves and find myself disagreing. I thought the book was great! I see that allot of the people who read it, thinks that griffin is being selfish and a bit of a dramaqueen. But actually he is not. As you can see in the book helios is always keeping some secrets! And when griffin Ask, they aren't shared until the secrets are about to be played in real action. Helios also become really akward and secretive at times, sigh!(i hate not knowing everything), and helios does not really give full answers to griffins questions. Also, we can't see what helios is thinking threw out this book and we don't know what really is going on to be honest. We keep seeing all of griffins thoughts and emotions, because it's his side that are writtin in this book!(but i find myself wondering and missing helios thoughts and ect. at moments) i think you really have to read between the Lines to fully enjoy the book as I did. The plot was great, i'm hor*y so i liked the sexscenes. The way the author describes scenes and caracters is amazing. There are so many people but everyones different and have a trademark that you recognize them with. I was suprised that i always knew who everyones was and wich role they played in the book, wich i love. Some family secrets from both helios and griffin, one especally caught me by suprise and it really shocked me! Im not a fan of love and declorations of it(I actually don't believe in entarnel love) so i find some moments akward and too lovey dovey.. But you really have to read the book to understand.. I really hope There is a Third book coming up! I need to pull the Loose ends togehter, gaaaah!!!But i find this book as the first one, really good. You just have to go fully into the story and between the Lines to find the same experience as i had. less
