review 1: well ..... I had just read the Cranberry hush by the same author , which I loved and recommend !! so this one .. well the title says it all ... as for the love story it mentions in the title ... it was weak and going in all directions ... I thought ....would make a great working script for a "B" action movie ... so basically , I didn't hate it or love it ... I don't regret having read it but I would not read it a second time .. like I said before , if u want to read a GREAT book by this author , go for The Cranberry Hush !!
review 2: I seriously loved this book. A complete reversal from the heart breaking bittersweet Cranberry Hush (another shining example of Monopoli's brilliant work). Where Cranberry's erotically (unrequited) charged drama leaves the reader
... more reminded of the one that got away (queue Ms. Garland's song please), Homo Action is the other side of the spectrum but no less equal to its predecessor in scope and heightened drama. This is a page turner and a bed burner. Clemente Santiago is the ubiquitous straight boy in every latino way possible. Monopoli's portrayal of Clemente is dead on -- calling on suave charm mixed with bad assed wicked thoughts. His character just oozes sex (in a very good way). Boots McHenry is a likable character (he is the lead protagonist in this book but Santiago is a scene stealer no matter where he appears) and you find yourself steadfastly in his corner. Monopoli is so good at exuding the latin straight boy's hotness, that he is present in the reader's mind even when he's not center stage. We're swept away about him as much as Boots is. And Boots flips Santiago's world upside down as well. And it is handled in a believable way. There are pirates (yeah, you read that right), tropical settings, a great white shark, motorcycle chase scenes and all over lube covered body bangin' hot m/m sex. The great thing about it is... the sex scenes oddly propel the story forward. Something comes out from them (double entendre intended here, folks). This was a fun romp to plow through. All of the characters are memorable (except the single character who's teeth I'd like to kick in myself and quickly forget about after...). Highly recommended if you want to read an action oriented story that has a sweet ending. Boots gets what he wants in the end, just not the way he thought it would end. And he goes into it with open eyes. Knowing full well the risks involved but the way he figures it, the journey with his love is what makes it all the more sweeter. Life isn't supposed to be just about safety, the adrenaline rush in a relationship comes from all sorts of places. From the wildly erotic to the sublimely mundane ordinary experience. In the case of Boots McHenry, it just nice that he has someone with him to go through it all. Santiago's a gem... and Boots well knows it.Bottom line review: The mind is a sexy playground and Monopoli knows just how to tickle us in the right spot.Brilliant! less

They sex is hot, and everything else...eh. I did appreciate the pseudo-sci fi premise, however.
