review 1: Like most people fascinated by the Appalachian Trail, I had heard stories about " Grandma Gatewood's" the first woman to through hike the trail and the first person to hike it three times. When I read this book about her life i was able to understand how, at her age, (67 the first time she through hiked the Trail) she had the endurance and fortitude to complete the Trail. I hope this is not the only book about Emma Gatewood because after hearing her story I would like to learn more about her.
review 2: Very inspiring story about a Lady who at sixty seven walked the Appalachian Trail and coming from a Farm background made her as tough as nails. The interesting part was how she survived being abused by a brutal husband for years and rose above that tragedy to do
... moresomething for herself which was a love of the outdoors and walking. During the walk she had many experiences with people she encountered along the trail who did not know her past history and showed her kindness and help for the most part. One is left with admiration for her. less

It's a good idea for a book, but a really dry boring read.
