review 1: The title alone made me put this on a to-read list, and I'm happy to report that it didn't disappoint. I read half of it, staying up way past my bedtime, and then finished it the next night. The story is vivid, I could see the apartment and the office and the characters. The language creates a feeling of motion that, to me, synchronized with the mental state of the narrator. Brisk, fresh, enjoyable.
review 2: About a guy named Keith, pushing 40, coming to grips with fatherhood amongst other things. Very coming-of-age, very lit-pop, very Ben Tanzer, and that's all good. It was a joy to read, especially for a dad who's struggled with the thoughts Ben lays down so clearly. And I liked the whole tie-in to the Hold Steady. I've had that feeling of listening to a... more song, being at a show, and all of a sudden having the idea of a story or book flash through my head, but then it quickly disappears the next day after waking up with a hangover. Ben was obviously able to take that inspiration and deliver a fine book. This should be read, everywhere. less
