review 1: This is such a sweet little book about a boy who rescues a beached baby whale. At first, the child wants to keep the whale in the bathtub, but his father convinces him that the ocean is where whales should live. There is a very sweet ending with the whale and its mother "waving" at the child. Veg*n parents note: The father makes his living as a fisherman. The family eats fish stew at one point and the boy feeds the whale whole fish.
review 2: Although Noi has six cats for company when his father goes off fishing, he feels lonely and longs for some companionship. After a storm washes a small whale ashore, he brings the whale home and shares stories with the quiet creature. Although he succeeds in keeping the whale a secret for a little while, his father helps hi... morem return it the sea where it belongs. The story is poignant, and it seems that Noi's father realizes that he needs to spend a little more time with his son after this incident. The illustrations are lovely, filled with muted colors and almost making readers feel as though they can smell the sea air as they read. The story stays with readers even after they've finished reading it. less
