review 1: Really enjoyed this quick little mystery. It is the 6th title in the series but I didn't feel lost picking it up in the middle. Enjoyed the southwest setting, lots of storylines that she keeps going and all fit in nicely. It doesn't seem overly busy. I was fascinated with the polygamy plot line and how Webb used it. She is not complimentary of that lifestyle at all. Very different than Krakauer's neutral telling in Under the Banner of Heaven. I would like to go back and pick up other titles in this series.
review 2: I enjoyed the mystery and the female investigator. The author, an investigative journalist, wrote an article on the horrors associated with polygamy; abandoning teen boys to the streets when there were not enough women to go around as wives.
... moreThe tone got a bit hard-nosed at times, in case we hadn't believed the description of offenses the first few times around. I was shocked as the information was new to me and also enjoyed the mystery itself. less
