review 1: (Like probably everyone else who read this) I was a Bill Callahan/Smog fan already. Callahan's ear/eye for pulling the profound from the mundane is as incredible in this book as it is/has been for years in his song writing. I'm not a big fan of epistolary novels, but I am a fan of a good letter. He made some interesting choices here, most notably the omission of so much detail, i.e. Emma's actual correspondence, the true nature of nar's job, etc. But this aspect of the book -- in my opinion -- made it's 70 or so pages feel incredibly full and expansive.
review 2: Jessica and I got this for me to read to her on a long road trip. We got Bill to sign the front, as he's a creative hero to both of us. He wrote a really nice thing. I wish we liked the book better. As
... more prose poetry, it's great. There are lots of great one-line thoughts and philosophies that speak a stark, wry truth. It falls apart though with the threads that try to tie a compelling narrative together. I didn't care really about what happened to anyone in the book. I found myself wishing it was set to music, though. less

Pésimo. Es como letras de canciones diagramadas para el lado, pero sin música. Pucha, Smog.

What a load of pretentious, confused, boring horsecrap. His last album was great though.
