review 1: As an ardent lover of train journey, I expected this book to bring about the essence and culture of the habitat and people in India's remote regions where the train halts and you have no idea what's happening behind the yellow boards! The book lacked in rendering the feel of liveliness one would acquire, travelling around India. Though some snippets made a bit interesting, overall the travelogue lacks depth of feeling and doesn't portray the culture of the people, neither food nor famous landmarks so well.Mostly it disappoints the reader and only the title sounds promising enough than its content. The author was so desperate to buy himself a whisky at all the places he visited than thinking of writing a very good travelogue.Nevertheless, the booked failed to quench the read... moreers' curiosity!
review 2: I love Travelling to lost places and ones which are less frequently visited...places like Bundi, Mandawa in Rajasthan which are not part of the routine itineraries! and this book is just the same - a travelogue (well, sort of) about Railway Station Towns which nobody venture inside and explore and just touch & leave! the writing style is immensely personal and you feel part of Bishwanath Ghosh's travels! Train Journeys have been my favourite too and would love to make a long one very soon...and reading about Itarsi was so much fun! it was one of those stations where we used to eat like mad during our frequent Goa journeys! This book is a must read for all travel & train journey lovers! less

its a simple book that's more of the journey than the destination. it's an easy Sunday read.
