review 1: Purchased and read this based on the many rave reviews of it - in fact, I purchased all three books in the trilogy. Unfortunately, it was horrible - had to force myself to finish it, and I won't be reading the others. Not sure why anyone calls this original - using a few Russian terms rather than medieval European, and made up terms for fire, air, etc. elementals, doesn't make it original. It's as generic as, and with characterization as deep (or better said, shallow) as, Terry Brooks - which I liked when I was 15, but not now. The writing wasn't great either. For example: "Only then can the land begin to heal." Ugh.
review 2: I picked this book up for free through Amazon at the beginning of the year. For me that price was right. I couldn't get very far into ... morethis one. The author throws you into the deep end of the fiction right from the start. This is a style that doesn't agree with me. In general the writing was uneven. At times the point of view change was jarring. There were times I just didn't know what was really going on. less
