review 1: Have to take this one back to the library soon. Only have maybe a 4th left but I probably won't finish it anytime soon. I liked the world and the plot, but something kept me from being completely enthralled. I think if the "Beyonders" were both a little older it would help. I have a hard time imagining their actions and personalities being accurate for 14 year olds. For some reason it felt like work to get through the book at parts and I guess I haven't been in the mood for that kind of reading. The work may well be worth it at times and maybe the ending really makes it worth it, but I'm looking for something that carries me along with it a bit more, rather than dragging me along.
review 2: It isn't very often that a second book in a series is better than the... more first. However, this one is. There isenoughaction to keep you fascinated, but the fantasy themes are stronger in tone. It has moved from a kids fantasy to a swashbuckler. The ending is a satisfying stoping place, so that you want to read more but do not feel let down or dejected when you reach the final page. I was genuinely impressed. less
