review 1: I finished this yesterday but have been thinking on what to write for a review. It's not the most well-written book - could have used some better editing to keep her ideas and writing more concise, so it makes her point her to follow at times. But the main ideas are carefully presented, and moreover, the way it's impacted me has been so profound that I can look over the rambling and poor language. My 5-star review comes from that, not the way it's written. I'm going to have to think more on how to describe it, but simply put she writes about shame and the way it affects our thinking and relationships, as well as vulnerability and how we look to connect with others. Overall I think she was trying to *not* sound like an academic paper (this book was to present her research o... moren shame) so she wrote more in a stream-of-consciousness style and it was a bit hard to wade through. Anyway, check out her TED talks on youtube for an idea of her "style" and topics.
review 2: This was an incredibly interesting book about shame, vulnerability and connection. This isn't really a management or a parenting book. I can see using what I've learned from it as a manager and a parent. It was able to put into words things I've figured to be true about myself, but never knew how or thought to express. It really made me think about how I can improve my interactions with others. If you're not sure if you'd find this interesting start with her TED talks. less
