review 1: Sick, twisted, and brutal, yet very compelling. Hopkins Bend is a vile place filled with unsavory characters with no respect for humanity. Many of the antagonists' henious acts are difficult to read, but the payoff for the reader is getting to see them recieve their respective comeuppance, and how the aftermath greatly affects the protagonists. A good author knows how to challenge the reader(take them out of their comfort zone) and have them comming back for more. If you prefer to stay in your comfort zone this isn't the book for you!
review 2: I think the title well defines this story. It is absolutely depraved! Horror-Porn at its best. People often say that the difference between erotica and porn, is that erotica has sex with a purpose. Well Smith definitely
... more demonstrates what happens when you turn the "purpose" on its head and hand it over to a bunch of backwoods in-breds. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Smith and if you like your horror rough then you will love this book...not his best, but right up there. less
