review 1: We read this for our small group (life group) at church. As we all agreed in the group, this is a book that needs to be read and discussed as a group. We didn't all agree about the "local" issue discussed in the book such as going to the closest church and shopping and working as close as possible to home. We did agree that living in Southern California makes "local" take on a whole new meaning compared to rural Oregon where one of the writers lives. A book that led to some great discussions.
review 2: A useful book. The author takes a number of core biblical truths considers the implications if we took them seriously for church life. He includes incarnation, love is patient, stability, wholeness, gratitude, generosity, sacramental meals. It leads to a p... moreerspective on church that as the authors say is more holistic in scope and slow and attentive in its praxis. There is a lot to reflect upon for those who are part of churches that no longer see themselves as designed to the exact specifications of a particular franchise. less
