review 1: This book was as delightful as the first one in the series. It follows the story of Damaris, who is a widow, and Alec, the Earl of Rawdon. There is an incredible attraction between the two and when Damaris is kidnapped outside her home in London, she turns to Alec for help. While escaping the ruffians, they fall further in love with each other.The banter between them was delightful and the romance was sweet as they both struggle to curb their desires when thrown into tight quarters. Can't wait to read about the thawing of the ice queen, Genevieve, in the next book!
review 2: Sorry, Candace, but this one was just so BLAH to me. I loved the first in the series, but SS didn't keep the momentum going. The characters were basic, and I think the story relied too... more heavily on action to fill it up. Both the hero and the heroine were so boring to me, not really fully formed in their personalities. Yes, yes.... Damaris is beautiful and has a not-so-pristine history. WHAT ELSE? Alec has high cheekbones, wintry eyes, and can be surprisingly warm and caring. WHAT ELSE? Barely anything. Damaris and Alec ended up being the type of people you meet at a party, then forget about as soon as you leave. I had hoped for better. One thing really stuck in my craw in this story. There was so much unprotected sex, and not one word about a potential unplanned pregnancy, which could've ruined Damaris' future. There was such an emphasis on not staining Demaris' good name, but no talk between the characters about preventing conception. Would've been nice to have included that in there just to round out Alec's concern for Damaris. less
