Aimee Leduc Investigations
review 1: I agree with another reviewer, that these books of Aimee LeDuc have lost a lot of their original punch, and have fallen into the trap that many a murder mystery series falls into, that of repetition. The character just doesn't move on, in fact in this case, becomes hardened in her ways, both the good and the bad. While this may very well reflect human nature, that we are doomed to repeat ourselves, it is not a great trait in a series, where things become all too predictable. I still take these out of the library but long gone are the days when I would pick pne up at a book store, not even a used one. In this installement Rene's Chinese girlfriend disappears, and when they go about finding her, they discover some human trafficing. Yuck. But it happens, and nothing in ... morehere is contraindicated in the news one reads. Time to end sexual slavery, but unlike same sex marriage, that change is unlikely to happen in my lifetime.
review 2: Once again, author Cara Black brings Paris to life with her Aimee Leduc mysteries. I’ve read Black and her Leduc mysteries before but I read this one while in Paris on vacation. And let me tell you -- Black has the atmosphere of the city spot-on. For me, the mystery itself (this time, involving the HUGE mess her business partner’s new girlfriend gets tangled up into) is not the real draw with the Leduc stories. It is the way Paris sparkles and vibrates as Aimee wanders, chases and races through the city to find clues. I liked this story, though, because unlike some of Black’s other tales, this one had more of an ethnic vibe since her partner’s girlfriend is Chinese and much of the action takes place in Paris’ active, yet sometimes seedy Chinatown. For any mystery reader, this is a must read…but also for those Francophiles out there, if you have not stumbled onto Aimee Leduc and her special brand of Parisian charm. less

The latest in the Amy Leduc series. Black's writing seems to be getting a little less choppy.

Entertaining somewhat believable. I would read another Aimee Leduc mystery.
