review 1: There's a bit of stumbling to get through the first half of this book. The dialogue is, at times, abrupt and flat, and emotions are sometimes more reactive than appropriate to the moment (or danger). There are gratuitous plot devices such as the fight training, which are somewhat meaningless because the skills go mostly unused. Plus it stretches belief that Paige can wield a sword for more than a few minutes on the first go-around, much less a few hours. What I really liked about this book came in the second half, where there is more world-building as Logan reveals more about his past. There is a lot of potential in the story that the book is becoming. Yet I still had issues with a few things here: First, repeating the plot device of rendering her helpless doesn't g... moreive her much room for action as the heroine of the book. Instead it requires her to be saved yet again, which makes her more of a victim; Second, her reaction to an important reveal felt disingenuous since she has been shown otherwise by an earlier comic relief character (trying to avoid spoilers hers). However, there was so much potential in the second half of the book, that I was able to overlook these issues as new series growing pains. There is also an interesting undercurrent of the naive gullibility of children who are raised in war situations to believe what they are told. I hope that topic is explored more in the next book.
review 2: Talk about cliffhangers!!!! This book is excellent. The writing is simple and interesting. I loved the characters and added a new fictional guy to my list of book boyfriends. And really, who cares about the guy being hot. I prefer them to be sweet. And gosh, Logan is sugar :') Paige is a very strong, independant, funny and brave character and I loved her for that. The romance was beautiful, the plot was also interesting. Nothing more to add 5.0 deserved stars! less

I had a really hard time finishing this book. The beginning was good but it went downhill quickly.
