review 1: I listened to the audio version of this book. This would have been a 5 star read if it was longer. As it is, I really enjoyed it because I really connected with the MC. This is not a new story; spoiled rich brat gets sent to the country to be around the "salt of the earth" small town folk and transformation ensues. It's a classic and was done really well. So well I really hope there is a sequel with the same couple. I want to hear more of their story. The narrator is one of the best and delivers in this book as always.
review 2: When I pick up a book by Cardeno C, I am never disappointed. Never. This author is the master at writing stories that tug on your heart, while heating up your blood, and McFarland’s Farmis no exception. In less than 55 pages,... more she managed to make me laugh, cry, get angry,and turned on (though not all at the same time lol). I was so caught up in watching the relationship unfold between Lucas and Jared, that I was shocked to find that I'd finished the story. Do I feel cheated? Not at all. Finding the perfect point to close a book is another one of Cardeno C’s super powers, and one of the reason she's on my “go to” author list.In the beginning of the story, I didn't like Lucas very much. It's okay though, because I wasn't supposed to. He's selfish, self serving, and calling him a “tad narcissistic” is being generous. I realized early on though, that there had to be more to him than what appeared on the surface, and enjoyed peeling the layers back as I read.Jared, on the other hand, just flat out made me sad. He simply existed, going through his daily routine, and in spite of being well liked in town, was desperately lonely. Long hours tending his farm might have given him some measure of satisfaction, but didn't go far towards warming his bed at night or feeding his soul. Taking on Lucas as a favor to his ex father-in-law was the closest he'd come in a long time to doing something for himself. His guilty secret? He'd crushed on Lucas for as long as he'd known him.I thoroughly enjoyed how the two men perfectly complimented one another. Lucas was brash and whiny, but he shook up Jared in exactly the way the farmer needed most. Jared, on the other hand, made me smile in appreciation at his reactions – or rather “non” reactions to Lucas’ childish protestations. His patience was long, and when he did get angry, you sat up and took notice, because he wasn't kidding around. McFarland’s Farm is heartwarming, with passion that sizzles and pops. I encourage you to pick it up – this quick enjoyable read by Cardeno C has a lot to offer readers who love a well written romance. Five Shooting Stars!! less
