review 1: Just finished this book, that I won on Good Reads site. Excellent book!It captured the feelings of life in the late 1930's, and explored the resulting emotions of a family hobbled together by events outside of the family member's power. Carin Clevidence makes you breathe in the smells of living in this small Long Island village on the sea and marsh.Highly recommend reading this book.
review 2: I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads! I found this book enjoyable overall, I think that it contained some colorful characters (would love to have heard more about Mr Washington). To be quite honest, I didn't think much happened in the first part of the story and didn't feel that the first major incident was the catalyst for what happens thereafter,... more however I thought the author did a nice job creating the climax of the story and it subsequent aftermath. less
