review 1: A great overall take on the war in Afghanistan and how the country we should be more concerned about is Pakistan. Ms. Gall talks extensively about how the Taliban and other militant extremists are under the control of Pakistan's ISI (intelligence service). How they capture, torture and kill Taliban that are actually for peace, all the while claiming cooperation with US. She talks about her travels throughout Afghanistan during the American lead campaign and notes that a great deal of the fighters are foreigners. Many are Pakistanis, Uzbecks, Tajiks and Saudi's - raised in radicalized madrassas (religious schools) in Pakistan and funded by the ISI to fight jihad back in Afghanistan. She points out many of the positives from the war such as a nationalized police force and ar... moremed services to protect the people, villages rebuilding into strong supporters of the country and people fighting back to take charge of their lives. But she also talks about the dangers of America and NATO forces pulling out at this crucial time when the country is finally getting back on it's feet. The army and police are strong, with the people's resolve. Is it enough to stem the tide of endless militant fighters infiltrating from Pakistan? Many Afghans think not. Her predictions for Afghanistan are currently playing out in Syria, Iraq and soon Turkey as ISIS sweeps into power - filling a void created by troop withdrawals from Iraq. Hopefully this book gets people paying attention so that all we've invested in Afghanistan is not lost.
review 2: Writer shows some personal vendetta for Pakistan, as for all terrorism in the world specially Afghanistan only Pakistan is responsible. She gives a lot of self contradictory statements in her book. At one place she declares COAS Pakistan army controlling and backing Taliban and at another place she says that Musharraf called Col Imam who was at that time in Afghanistan saying that what are you doing there now? come back. and there are a lot other examples as well. She has not tried to truly depict the picture of war on terror. less

A bit disjointed. This book reads more like a series of longform articles than anything else...
