The Very Nearly Honorable League of Pirates
review 1: This was a marvelous and enchanting book, full of plot twists, a plucky heroine, a gargoyle, governess and of course lots of pirates! Unlike your typical pirate book this one is about a 12 year old girl who is the daughter of the Admiral in the Navy and who wants to be a pirate rather than go to finishing school. We listened to Audible's edition of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it, my 8, 6 and 2.5 year old loved it as well as myself. It takes a special kind of book to be engaging in the car, something everyone can stand to listen to and with enough action and interest to keep the driver awake while driving. This book fits the bill perfectly. We look forward to reading more books in the Nearly Honorable League of Pirates series!

... moreish girls become pirates? Hilary Westfield, the protagonist Carlson's fantasy adventure, The Very Nearly Honorable League of Pirates #1: Magic Marks the Spot, thinks so! Billed as a "hilarious" and perfect for fans of Lemony Snicket, this fantasy adventure is memorable. This book is the first in a new series. Not a book for readers who like a more serious fantasy, but a good fit for readers who like a quirky fantasy with some humor. I liked it well enough to keep an eye out for the next book in the series. less
