review 1: I really enjoyed this trilogy and finished all books in 2 days (don't judge me, my eyes hurt!) The author leaves you with one hell of a cliff hanger at the end of the first two books, and I stayed curled up on my couch like an addict jonesin' to know what happens with all the characters.Jack... oh poor, confused Jack. He was really one of my favorite characters, although I was never rooting for him and Valerie to end up together. I didn't like him in the first book, thought he was quite the d-bag, but boy did he grow on me. I saw that there is a novella the author wrote giving a little more background to Jack, and I can't wait to read it.And then there's Lucas. The ultimate bad boy/ anti-hero type that ends up not being so terrible. I liked how much backstory we got on... more him in this third installment and your heart starts to break for the guy. I don't blame him for not wanting all the emotions, who would want to remember 1600 years of awfulness?Valerie was a great heroine I thought. There were times I wanted to reach my hand through the page and slap her when she would start getting a little too whiny/self indulgent, and then there were times where I wanted to shake because she was taking too much shit from one of her boys.Okay, so now why I only gave it 4 stars when I gave the first two 5.I didn't like the ending. I felt a little let down and fell asleep thinking of all the other ways I wished it had gone, which was just tiring! I feel like I was so invested in these characters and their stories, and it was just like plllp(mouth fart noise). Done. I think it's set up for another series to start from it focusing on the new character Molly, but I wanted the ending now. And the ending we are given... just no. I'm all for the redemption/ bad guy turned good, but c'mon. I feel like so many of the characters were just stripped down into completely different people, and then it was over. No explanation, no look into their new lives, nothing. *le sigh*Also, TONS of typos (at least in my Kindle version). It was almost confusing at times because of misplaced and missing quotations as well as missing or incorrect words used (ex. it said "the" a few times when it should have been "her/him" and just little things like that. Not huge, but had to re-read to make sure I understood). That's more of an editing thing though, and it doesn't really bother me, so I didn't take that into account for my review, but I'm sure it will drive others crazy. All in all, what a great, entertaining series to read. Thank you Caroline Hanson for putting a free version of the first Valerie Dearborn novel on Amazon for Kindle. I'm very happy to have been introduced to your books and am definitely looking forward to reading more of your work.
review 2: For some reason, this book was felt short for me. Maybe I really, really wanted more of Valerie and Lucas, and why not even Jack! I thought something was missing in the story, maybe that strong connection between the main characters, or that everything ended so fast...I don't know I guess I was expecting more. Anyhow, the book was good (not as good as the other two in my opinion, but still good).
